Wings 4 Peace and RiseUP for Arts will be hosting a Mural Reveal at Parkville Market
Wings 4 Peace and RiseUP for Arts will be hosting a community mural reveal at 4PM on Monday, October 24th at Parkville Market to debut a new piece of public art with a mission. The Wings 4 Peace movement was founded by Connecticut-based creative, Lorie Lewis, in the wake of the Uvalde school shootings. Understanding how powerful public art can be, Lorie launched a nationwide effort to get artists and regular folks involved in creating artwork that symbolizes Peace in America. In August of this year, Lorie contacted Connecticut based-public art nonprofit, RiseUP for Arts, to support the efforts to make a mural happen in the Hartford area and the team quickly got moving on making the project come to life.
RiseUP set their sights on a very visible wall at Parkville Market, whom they work with on their Parkville Paints Project, for the mural and enlisted local artist Julie Bergeron to design and lead the effort. The result will be a meaningful and eye-catching piece of public art for the neighborhood that will be revealed as part of a Grand Finale for the Wings 4 Peace movement on October 24th. Wings 4 Peace will also be revealing a mural in Bridgeport on the same day.
The painting process was truly a community effort, where Julie brought together youth from the community, who regularly work with her and RiseUP, and the Posh Paint team, a locally-owned mobile painting party company, to complete the mural over the last two weeks. The unveiling on October 24th will be a community celebration with artists, local businesses, community groups, local youth and City and State leaders in attendance.
The unveiling will take place at 4PM on October 24th at Parkville Market, 1400 Park Street, Hartford, CT 06106. Please contact lslewis24@gmail.com, matt.conway@theriseupgroup.org and chelsea@parkvillemarket.com for any questions.
