Through the scorching summer heat, a team of high-school aged youth and professional artist, Candyce “Marsh” John, met diligently on Putnam Ave in Hamden to create two incredible murals on the underpass of the Farmington Valley Rail-to-Trail.
Join us TONIGHT for the mural dedication ceremony on Thursday, 9/29 at 5:15PM with the youth interns, artist, and Hamden community leaders.
The program, Creative Leadership Internship Program (CLIP), is a youth development and public art initiative created by RiseUP for Arts to connect youth with hands-on work opportunities in public art. In addition to Hamden, RiseUP runs the CLIP youth program in Hartford, Manchester, Putnam, and Stamford CT.
CLIP in Hamden, CT is a collaboration between statewide nonprofit, RiseUP for Arts and Hamden’s Youth Services Bureau, funded through generous grants and youth Workforce Development funding to create a paid internship opportunity for the youth.
About Candyce “Marsh” John https://www.marshunart.com/bio
Candyce “Marsh” John’s ever growing body of work is a self reflective expression of her views on existentialism. Representing the essence of what it is to live as a BIPOC and member of the LGBTQ+ community in a world of resistance, resilience and revolution during a new era of renaissance rooted in benevolence. Rising from the ashes of grief into a space of gratitude, Marsh’s oeuvre encapsulates an unapologetically blaque nuance of love, loss, and liberty by way of artistic expression.
